sorry guys, i can’t get enough

found another amazing hang drum vid by the same guys as last time, and felt compelled to share…

also found out they have a CD available through their myspace page. i’m seriously considering buying a copy. (just so you know, they are from france, so the price is in Euros. the big yellow button at the top of the page once you click on the the album cover from their myspace page –just above the two youtube links– is the ‘pay with paypal’ button. google translator might help a bit with the order site if you’re serious about ordering it.)

:) enjoy!

so here’s the thing…

i’m not very good at sticking to schedules.

my mother can attest to this: i fly by the seat of my pants.

which means i was making this blog very not-me when i came up with a feature of scheduled posts for certain days of the week having the same content type. this is what all the good blogs i read do, so this is what i thought i needed to do to keep readers interested.

but honestly?

i couldn’t be more bored with it. it’s too much pressure to make sure i write certain posts on certain days, and sticking to this schedule is making me feel drained and uncreative. it becomes a scramble to come up with that one certain post that has to fit all of these criteria i made up to stick to the schedule.

honestly, it’s even made me stop making jewelry for the last week or so. the only thing i’ve created is a mental block for myself.

i can’t get away from it, because i’ve held myself to this standard. but really, i’m trying to be someone i’m not if i do scheduled Monday-is-this, Tuesday-is-this posts. i’m ignoring my own creative flow which bucks this system with all of its energy and tries to break free from the tethers of time constraints. i’m creating in myself the urge to give up on this blog altogether because i can’t stand trying to fit my posts into certain categories anymore. i’ve found that if i try to fit them into a category and i can’t, i give up and don’t post anything. as you can see, for the last few weeks, this has happened a lot. the result is no posts and nothing for my readers to read, except dry old posts that contain little bits of what i’m trying to get across and a whole lot of boring.

SO.

changes are afoot. this is why my last blog failed and i don’t know what i thought i would be fixing by trying the same thing over again with this one. i did promise you all this would be better, and up to this point, i feel i’ve failed. i’m in the same rut now i was in after a year of the last one, and this one’s only about 3 months old.

i’m making a resolution. i will no longer attempt to fit within someone else’s blog standards. i will make my own. because this is MY blog. this isn’t someone else’s blog. it’s mine.

i’d like it to not get dreary and boring in the middle of a sea of the same old stuff.

it’ll stand out! it’ll be a representation of me and my ideas and my creativity.

from now on, i will post what i feel, when i feel. and i will definitely still have DIYs and favorite Etsy shop features and TTV photo posts. They just won’t be so scheduled all the time. even that word makes me shudder.

when i find a cool Etsy shop, i won’t save it up until mondays. i will show you as soon as i find it.

when i take a sweet photo or find a sweet photo from a flickr friend, i will share it with you, just not always on thursdays.

when i make something i think you’d enjoy, i will share it with instructions, but not necessarily on friday.

and i feel like this way, you, my dear readers, will have a better idea of who i am, what i love, how i think, and where i’m coming from. i will feel less limited by a schedule and therefore produce more worthy content. i promise, this is not a bad thing. in fact, this is the beginning of a very good thing.

what do you think?

will you still be reading?

feeling old

(via New Math)

(via New Math)

found this today on New Math by Craig Damrauer and felt the need to pass it along. there’s plenty more that had me laughing hysterically (what can i say? it’s late and i’m sleep-deprived…): here, here, here, & here.

i’ve been thinking a lot lately about how i don’t do a lot of the things i used to do. R & i have been discussing this somewhat as well.

it turns out when you get old, you stop eating giant chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream sundaes with oreo cookie-&-caramel toppings at 3am, and instead crave a new kind of filler that makes you painfully question your fleeting youth: iceberg-&-romaine  salad with crouton-&-black olive toppings.

we’re getting old. but do i miss the late-night sweets binges? sometimes.

but then i just add more dressing because it makes me feel like i’m being rebellious, which is an emotion only experienced at its full potential in youth.

what makes you feel young?

so nice to meet you!

so i thought it might be fun to kick off (if i can say that i guess, this is just a fresh resurrection of an older blog that bit the dust about a month ago during a WP update that installed erroneously, deleting and/or corrupting all of my precious content. le sad…) this new blog with a little info about me, so you can get an idea of who i am and what this blog might be about.

sound good?
ok then, here goes:

25 random things about me:

1. i was born in 1986 (capricorn)
2. my old blog was called Science&Romance. it’s been changed to be more cohesive and recognizable with my shop & website.
3. my middle name is the same as my mother’s. my family is italian.
4. i spent 3 months in Berolzheim, Baden-Wurtemburg (Germany) as a junior in high school. i went to school there and traveled through Italy & France as well. i took with my very first digital camera and managed to take over 300 photos per day, on average.
5. i love blank notebooks, especially ones filled with graph paper & unlined paper. however, i only enjoy them if i’ve picked them out myself because i’m incredibly particular about them if their purpose is journaling/idea gathering. i have specific criteria each would have to meet.
6. i enjoy fruit more than i let on. i could eat fruit & only fruit for weeks and never be unsatisfied (and probably healthier).
7. i’ve been told my handwriting is very neat, but i think it couldn’t be messier. i’m very self-conscious about it, but i’m not embarrassed.
8. i am a semi-clean person. i don’t like a mess & i am very organized, but for some unknown reason (to the utter disapproval of my fiance) i don’t mind dishes in the sink or piles of dirty laundry (or clean, for that matter).
9. i’ve had my cat for about 5 years. i named her after the little mermaid (ariel) because it was my favorite movie as a kid. my parents can vouch for this.
10. i love old music, indie music, low-fi, singer/songwriter stuff, girl-core, and shitty 80s pop on vinyl. shoot me.
11. i have a terribly wonderful collection of vintage lace trim & doilies. i think that i was born in the wrong decade. someday i will sew them all together and make a giant vintage quilt. someday.
12. my etsy shop features handmade jewelry right now, but i’m looking to include a multitude of other ventures (been delving into photography & am contemplating the purchase of an Epson Artisan printer so that i can offer prints; also sewing bags/clutches/pouches). i need to find a way to combine them all under my Pangea Handmade brand.
13. i have absolutely NO patience for bad customer service. i have worked customer service for all of my life, and it’s unacceptable and baffling to me that so many people do not understand what good customer service is.
14. another of my many artistic interests very minor graphic design.
15. i have an english degree with an emphasis in creative writing. someday i will write books.
16. i love mail. getting mail, sending mail, reading mail, mail ephemera (though i do not collect stamps), and penpals. serious.
17. i’m very conscious of symmetry/asymmetry for some reason. i have no idea how to explain this one…
18. i will mostly always choose comedy or indie over drama and horror. i actually cannot handle horror movies. if there is a possibility that i will have to see one (or even parts of one, for any reason), i get so anxious that i have been known to get physically sick. i attribute this to watching Nightmare on Elm Street without my parents permission on halloween in 6th grade at a friend’s house where i would have been uncool to say that i was too scared to watch it. i couldn’t sleep comfortably for over 2 years after. not. even. kidding. i am a wimp.
19. oh yeah, at that time, i lived on a street called “elm”.
20. if i could have chosen any other major, i may have chosen textile design, though i am absolutely not regretful of my decision of english instead. i should maybe have worded this: “if i could have double-majored…”
21. i am and always will be a Mac girl. though i am not against PCs, i just will never choose to buy one.
22. my fiance is my best friend. i have no idea how i ever lived without him, though i firmly believe that your experiences in life lead you to the right place and the right person only after you’ve lived through things that teach you to be who you are.
23. my life goal right now is to quit my full-time job by the time i have children.
24. i have a pretty extensive collection of vintage photographs from around the world.
25. i am so excited to be blogging again! let the creative outlets overflow!

if you made it through all of that, you deserve a medal. so head on over to my shop and take 20% off when you use the code “I Survived!” in the message to seller box and wait for an updated invoice from me!
